Brazil's 3rd-qtr GDP rises 0.5 pct from 2nd qtr

SAO PAULO | Thu Dec 9, 2010 6:08am ESTSAO PAULO Dec 9 (Reuters) - Brazil's economy grew 0.5 percent in the third quarter of 2010 from the second BRGDP=ECI, the government's statistics agency said on Thursday.Gross domestic product in Latin America's biggest economy had been expected to rise 0.4 percent quarter-on-quarter, according to the median forecast of 18 analysts polled by Reuters. Estimates had ranged from flat growth to expansion of 1 percent.Third-quarter GDP BRGDPY=ECI grew 6.7 percent compared with a year earlier. It had been expected to rise 6.6 percent, according to the median forecast of 17 analysts polled by Reuters. Estimates for year-on-year growth ranged from 5.6 percent to 7.5 percent.
