No serious injuries as 3 Chesterfield school buses collide
Chesterfield, Va. -- Three buses carrying students home from Elizabeth Davis Middle School yesterday afternoon as they were leaving the school, a Chesterfield County school spokesman said.There were no reports of serious injuries, but authorities evaluated 15 of the students at the scene as a precaution, spokesman Shawn Smith said.Eleven were released to their parents at the scene, and the remaining four were taken to hospitals to be checked out.Chesterfield fire Lt. Jason Elmore estimated that a total of 120 students were aboard the three buses. The four students taken to hospitals had very minor injuries, he said. Elmore said."The initial information received was that the three buses bumped into each other" at an intersection near the school. The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. at state Route 10 and Bermuda Triangle Road, a police communications official said.Smith said several additional buses were dispatched to the scene to take the students home.-- Mark Bowes
